Don Hatfield

Don Hatfield studied philosophy, theology, and literature while in college. It was not until he met the well-known portraitist, Charles Cross, that he really began to explore his talent of painting. His work became traditional in both concept and technique where he portrayed strong, quiet emotions through subtle, rich textures and warm inviting hues. Don Hatfield has become one of the most innovative impressionist of our time. His style of painting softly blends figures of realism with the gentle touch of classic impressionism.
Hatfield's style of painting has been greatly influenced by Ray Kinstler and Sergei Bongart. Also in his development as an artist, he had the added influence of modern cinematic interpretation. Since he was so affected by the new mastery of color on film, advertising and television, he felt a need for a more intoxicating light to shine through into his paintings. Seeking a truth in the paint itself, he documented the fleeting essence of the tender and humorous, but also of the enchantment of a special moment in time.
